Review of Repulsion (1965) by Chris Q — 05 Oct 2009
This is one of those films you never hear about, even though everyone should. Deneuve is astounding as the poor young woman who suffers from psychosis from sexual repression. Deneuve's descent into madness is known to many as one of the most realistic portrayels of pschosis ever known to cinema.
The film in general is dark, downbeat, and at points, surprisingly risque for its time and hasn't lost its haunting touch. Even after nearly forty five years after it's release, it's still an effective and nightmarish thriller.
