Review of Repulsion (1965) by Theodore Z — 17 Jan 2016
There's a few different ways this film can be judged. Was it enjoyable to watch? No. Did it accomplish its goal? Yes; expertly. Perhaps one is counter to the other. Can an accurate portrayal of a descent into madness really be fun to watch? Can we, the audience, really be entertained when we're kept in constant suspense for 60 mins and made to feel as though we, ourselves, are going mad?
I'll give this film 4 stars for it's fantastic execution, but like the world's largest ball of rubber bands, no matter how polished the end result is, the initial goal still remains questionable.
