Review of Repulsion (1965) by Sabra E — 22 Apr 2011
Pretty ladies are sometimes bonkers. Men are attracted to that, of course because everyone knows the psychos are best in bed, passive one minute and clawing next like a wild panther on the precipice of Everest on a partly cloudy day.
Ever wonder what a week in the life of a mentally ill manicurist was like? What they eat, hallucinate, fantasize and stare blankly at walls about? If so, watch Repulsion, buy a ticket for the Polanski theme park thrill ride with a molasses slow incline and ten second descent into an Agoraphobic tunnel of switchblade insanity.
If you're squeamish about dreamrape from familiar or deranged strangers, watch: Pixar, Home Alone, a buddy flick, Xanadu or Miyazake instead.
If you have time on your hands, and want to see it stretched into transparency, pop a rabbit out of the fridge and let it sit for a while. Soon enough the flies will come, to keep you company in the dark.
