Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) by Seanc — 15 Mar 2009
The discrepancy between the critics' ratings and the user ratings is pretty mind-blowing. I'm not sure what exactly the critics were expecting from the film but it almost suggests a media generation gap between the two groups.
Repo is fast, fun, and a completely self-aware cult flick. The music is forgettable after the DVD's back in its case, but during the film it's pretty enjoyable. The story is interesting and builds its characters enough that you care about what happens to them, but the film definitely walks well trodden ground.
All the elements of the film, taken on their own, are OK but the whole package elevates it to something that is just ridiculously entertaining. Plus: Paris Hilton's face falls off. That's worth the price of admission alone.
