Review of Red Desert (1964) by Y'ng Y — 22 Sep 2008
Red Desert transcends any other colour film by using the crucial colour element psychologically, metaphorically, evocatively and as a highlight to accentuate parts of the modern composition within the frame.
that was a very inventive use of colour technology in film in the 60s, a celebration of technological advances, and yet the film places the female protagonist at odds in an alien and alienating industrial world, where she feels too much with distorted emotions within the cold indifferent industrial surroundings and the emotional distance of a particular class of people.
Antonioni's best film and one of the most outstanding in cinema history.
