Review of Red Cliff (2008) by Eric L — 27 Jun 2011
This visually stunning, epic and admittedly intense 5 hour film completely astonished me. It was an amazing story (mostly true) and a welcome return to form for Director John Woo, whose recent films were disappointing, to be polite.
This film features amazing acting, writing and visionary direction. It was absolutely incredible and breathtaking. Some of the greatest battle sequences I've ever seen and incredible character and story depth.
I was also impressed that it included Woo's trademark "Mexican Standoff", but with swords as opossed to guns. It's easily John Woo's greatest film, if not the greatest war film ever made.
Yes, it's that good.
