Entertainment Weekly proclaims "Spectacular battle scenes!" It should be "Ridiculous battle scenes!" Rather than make the protagonists look smart, brave, and heroic on merit, they try to make the protagonists look that way relative to the utter foolishness and clumsiness with which the antagonists attack.

Let's see... how can all ten of us attack from the same direction at the same time, placing our spears in the same place all so the guy we are attacking can block them all with a single stroke of his spear.

Repeat ad nauseum, and call it a movie. To me the battle scenes were actually the least compelling part of the movie. Way too big of a let down for me to want to see Red Cliff Part II.
