Review of Red Beard (1965) by Jarod K — 20 Mar 2008
Another homerun for the mesmerizing director that is Akira Kurosawa. Nothing is more inspiring and hopeful than a story of selfishness turned into selflessness. Toshiro Mifune brilliantly plays an aged but wise doctor.
I loved his role because of how toned down it was compared to many of his other roles. Kurosawa's episodic pacing and superior ability to direct the audiences sympathy towards the right characters make this film heartwarming and powerful.
