Review of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) by Ray S — 25 Aug 2017
James Dean as Jim Stark is the one character that will live forever as the most iconic performance in American cinema. In the film every character is trying to explain what they don't understand and can't articulate.
This shows perfectly why coming of age and the teenage rebellion is never really solved but more forgotten with time. Moreover, they are masking their insecurity with a face society tells them to wear yet not even society knows why and it is such an empathetic look at being human.
It is timeless in the sense that although it is largely forgotten the changes it made to American culture is still present but unaware of its origin.
