Review of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) by Ben G — 19 Dec 2009
The only thing that has changed are the fashion styles. The thematic content surrounding teenage angst (and angst in general), the struggle to belong, existentialism, and the importance of taking teenage rebels seriously is as relevant as ever.
James Dean gives one the most influential performances in acting history (film or stage) as Jim Stark, the lonely rebel WITH a cause. Nicolas Ray directs with an exquisite eye for detail. The film's use of color to illustrate the main character's feelings is remarkable and highly inspirational.
