Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Greg D — 14 Apr 2018
I thought it was a phenomenal 3D IMAX experience. Rather than indulgent I found the panoply of 80s avatars predictive, not unlike what happened Second Life or is happening in VR chat. It had the simple thrill of an adventure game and the feelz of teen love and friendship, and the familarity of the perils of meeting a game friend in real life.
Thoroughly enjoyable. I get auteur frustration with these big budget FX movies but I love them. I also love that an emerging auteur can shoot their movie on their phone and edit it on their laptop abd go for distribution on the proliferating web platforms.
