Review of Ratcatcher (1999) by Eric H — 19 May 2013
Lynne Ramsay's cinema is a highly detailed, patiently meditative and psychologically portentous cinema. Ratcatcher, her first film, is one of the best debut films of all time because it is made with consummate skill: each shot is an in depth portrayal not only of the conditions of Glasgow in the 70s but also of the intricate mannerisms and phrases of children growing up in indifferent and unsanitary adult world.
