Review of Rat Race (2001) by C F — 26 Feb 2009
I've never seen It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, so I have no way of telling what Rat Race does or doesn't rip off. In its own regard, it's an amusing ensemble comedy with a nice amount of wacky mishaps and John Cleese.
Unfortunately, it's forever marred by a weak ending, during which that Smashmouth song is once again inflicted upon the American people. I mean, it's not like "All Star" was new when this movie came out or anything.
I think by this time, it had already been in every movie, TV show, and commercial for a good two years, so the fact that the studio felt it was necessary to stick it in this movie too just makes the whole thing all the more dated and embarrassing.
What? Oh, the movie. Yeah, the movie was funny.
