Review of Rasputin: The Mad Monk (1966) by Adam R — 05 Dec 2007
An entry in the glutted canon of loosely-historically-based films that revolve around a repugnant figure.
Here, Christopher Lee does an appropriately creepy (if disappointing) performance as Rasputin, the lascivious "healer" who inadvertently brought down the Russian aristocracy.
The plot is muddled, the characters cardboard-thin, and, arguably worst of all, the film doesn't even bother to delve into the debaucherous real life of the "mad monk.".
