Review of Rashomon (1950) by Robert M — 19 Nov 2008
I will always remember the first time I saw this film. I'm not sure I have ever felt my mind being blown so much as what happened the first time I saw Rashomon. The form of drama on film being fully mixed with philosophy while studying the nature of man is one of the best ideas for a movie ever.
The angle of the lens with what the action it views has never been so mathematically precise in it's dramatic effect. The camera work is fantastic and the performances are huge. One of the best films to study as a text for great movie making.
This is usually referred to as Kurosawa's greatest film which should in itself make it known as one of the greatest films ever made. I've watched it repeatedly since the first time and this film has the amazing ability of getting better with each viewing.
