Review of Rashomon (1950) by Kenneth L — 22 Dec 2008
A classic. It's harder to appreciate today Kurosawa's originality in terms of camerawork and story structure, but that's only because people have been influenced by him ever since. The story is gripping, even though you are never quite sure what happens.
The acting is over-the-top, but appropriately so in a Japanese movie. Mifune especially does a great job as the bandit. Certainly a great and influential movie.
