Review of Rashomon (1950) by Shawn M — 06 Jan 2009
The techniques that Kurosawa uses in this film (e.g. flashbacks, especially those that differ from character to character, with no definitive answer) may not seem like a big deal now, but this was the first time, apparently, that these techniques were used.
The story is brilliant, and the film must have been groundbreaking at the time. Up there with his other masterpieces, such as 'Seven Samurai' and 'Ran'.
