Review of Rashomon (1950) by Petros T — 05 Aug 2016
A great - and now common - premise: three different versions of the same events that lead to a murder are recounted, and it's only at the end that we learn the truth is a mix of them all. Some average fight scenes and it really annoys me when they use the over-the-top fake maniacal laughing.
Mifune is good as Tajomaru, the bandit and Kyo is versatile as the wife, Masago - Mori doesn't have too much to do as Takehiro, her husband and the victim. Because it's in black & white, there's no subtle difference in each retelling of the murder - just the same bush.
Not too long and a good ending, it's a semi-obvious murder-mystery that could've been slightly better, or slightly worse.
