Review of Rashomon (1950) by Sylvester K — 02 Jan 2012
It's truly a master piece. I don't know where to begin on describing the film. The plot is quite complex, it's a tale of the dark side of humanity with a twist. The acting was Japan's finest, the use of lighting was incredible, it used a greyish lighting through out and at the end when humanity was found the lighting went from dark to bright to show the contrast.
The camera work was very well done, the use of many close ups and triangular shots were used to symbolise the relationship of the Samurai, Wife and Bandit. It's a film that did not require fancy explosions or CGI.
