Review of Rashomon (1950) by Andrew S — 11 Jan 2013
Rashomon is described as Akira Kurosawa's greatest work, which in Japan is a rather big deal. The film examines an incident that occurred in the woods, and follows the recollection of the incident from each individuals perspective, it is left up to the viewer to decide which perspective is the true story.
I could imagine this would have been a monumental film in 1950, introducing a new take on story telling and leading the audience through one hell of a trip. Regardless, for the time it was a well made movie, despite having several sequences dragging on to the degree that it becomes difficult to watch.
