Review of The Greatest Showman (2017) by Andrew S — 19 Oct 2018
While enjoyable and with a solid message, the film left me wanting more. I was unsure what to make of the exploitation of the circus performers. I was also unsure what the circus act really looked like.
Mostly, all that was shown was the performers dancing back and forth, singing, with Barnum. Was that it? I also didn't get much of a sense of the motivations behind the theater critic, the unruly mob, or Miss Lind.
Nonetheless, this movie is worth a second viewing. There are true gems in it, in terms of visuals, character development, and its epic rags-to-riches story of a man.
