Review of Rampage (2018) by Daniel S — 09 Dec 2018
The idea of turning a smashingly simple arcade game into an environmentally conscious anti-poaching film is an idea so weird it needs someone with a tonne of charisma to pull it off. Luckily, this film has The Rock.
He's big enough to carry the action, and engaging enough to make the non-smashy bits fun. It's a strong compliment that the Rock and his gorilla friend were telling such a nice story, it was a shame when everything started getting blowed up.
It's ridiculous, it's as big as you could ever want it, and Malin Akerman is great (never thought I'd type that) as a pantomime villain on the Cruella de Vil scale of ham. Now the action, whilst big, wasn't enough to really engage me too much in the last 20 minutes, and Naomie Harris was a bit pants (never thought I'd type that).
But if you like action films, this actioned in a very actiony way.
