Review of Rain Man (1988) by Anthony K — 14 Mar 2018
Thanks to the combination of a strong script, performances by Tom Cruise at his peak (and comfortably in his wheeler-dealer niche) and Dustin Hoffman doing a reasonable impression of an autistic individual, as well as a crackerjack script, Rain Man is about as sensitive a depiction of a person with a mental disability as it's really possible to have in a film made in 1991.
It's a classic for a reason, though I'd argue Tom Cruise is more deserving of an Oscar for his role than the showier Hoffman.
