Review of Race (2016) by Dane M — 02 Dec 2018
I never knew, and I'm guessing many of you don't know, the behind-the-scenes machinations that went on at the 1936 Olympics. The humiliation of Hitler and Goebbels by Leni Riefenstahl and runner, Luz Long were a surprise.
For that reason and how it was handled here, I'm boosting it from good to very good. Forget what some of the critics are saying: 'empty, not enough about Owen'.
As an athlete who has broken a record, I was catapulted there. The director got me into the broad jump and the races. And the hug at the end, between the coach and Owens made me tear up.
Athletes should watch this. Students should watch this. Blacks, whites, Jews and Germans should watch.
Instead of just history books, include this film.
Luz Long.
