Review of Quest for Fire (1981) by Jason H — 13 Feb 2009
Putting aside the obvious errors (or assumptions) concerning human evolution, this film is rather remarkable for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it is a tribute to film itself, as a visual medium. A rather compelling plotline, put forth with no understandable verbal language.
It achieves what the earliest, silent-era, films did - without the dialogue titles to help. Secondly, it presents some rather complex ideas concerning the nature of mankind - by simply showing them: the primary differences between animal and mankind (tool usage, intellect, humor, compassion, love).
All in all, a very good film.
