Review of Queen Margot (1994) by Sam R — 30 Sep 2008
A strange yet endearing film. Chareau does a good job of presenting France in the C16th. The story of this particular period of history is, of course, romanticised, but that is more due to Alexander Dumas' novel, rather than anything to do with the director.
The acting in places is truly superb, all of the villains, having particular presence and peculiar relationships with one another. A very potently sexual film, it never strays far from the story and laves the audience with questions of loyalty, mercy and religion, which are worth thinking about.
