Review of Pusher (1996) by Francisco G — 27 Nov 2011
A week in the life of a Danish drug dealer proves to be like many other film depictions we've seen of low-lives in other countries. Maybe this seemed fresher and more original back in 97. In any event, this doesn't show much of the style Refn has shows in his Hollywood debut, Drive.
For a long time not very much happens and the main characters are so uninteresting. The pace does pick up however, and the story becomes more involving and complex, to the point where you actually start rooting for the titular character, despite his lack of redeeming qualities.
