Review of Punch-Drunk Love (2002) by Bradley W — 16 Dec 2012
Punch-Drunk Love is a great film directed by the genius Paul Thomas Anderson and it succeeds in showing how great an actor Adam Sandler truly is. Let's face it, I am finally seeing this movie in 2012 and after seeing all of Sandler's crap lately, its good to see a movie where he actually gives an Oscar worthy performance.
It only took a great director/writer like Anderson to show his true genius as an actor deep down. I realize Sandler is a good actor, but sadly he just never shows it because he is in so many bad comedies nowadays.
I miss some of his older comedic work, but sadly I don't think we are going to see any of that again. This movie is about redemption, and its about the redemption of a mans journey to find a space for the hole in his life.
Barry Engle is a socially awkward guy, and this movie perfectly shows that he gets caught up in a web of mistakes that lead him to becoming a stronger and better person because of the woman he meets. This is a weird and strange film, but its that kind of strange and spiritual film that only Paul Thomas Anderson can bring us.
His films have changed my life, and now that I have finally seen this movie, I have completed my set of seeing all of his films. This was a great movie and I was proud to see a great achievment for Paul Thomas Anderson, and an even greater achievment for Adam Sandler.
