Review of Psycho (2007) by Simon H — 06 Jun 2014
Psycho is another of those films out there in the public eye that even those who have not seen the film are familiar with the iconic shower scene and the screeching theme. Many would also be aware of who the killer is. The film will offer up two difference experiences based on whether you are familiar with the film are not.
I don't want to reveal the twist as there may be a lonely soul out there who do not know it. It is done in a very clever way that many films have tried to copy since. What I did enjoy was how Psycho did not play out as a slasher film but rather a murder mystery, If you have watched the first half without knowing the title or any details on the plot then you would be completely oblivious to what genre it belonged in. This I thought was effective as it made the whole situation more believable.
It is also nice to see a horror film where the killer doesn't kill any random person at all but rather kill for a specific reason. Psycho is one of the classic horror films that still holds up today, and is still effective whether you know the outcome or not. It would be very interesting to have seen this without knowing the conclusion as it would present a much different experience.
