Review of Promised Land (2012) by Mike C — 11 Mar 2014
I so a heavily censored version of this little known Gus Van Sant movie on the flight from Sydney to San Francisco last year.
Terrible conservative re-dubbing aside, the only movie which could offer more insight into the horrors of 'fracking' (coal seam gas mining) is the two-part documentary tele-movie: Gasland.
Admittedly, however, Promised Land appears to focus more on the way in which energy companies sucker the poor with fraudulent incentives than addressing the science of this problem, and it's subsequent side effects.
Regardless, it still deserves credit for directly addressing one of the early 21st Century's biggest elephants in the room, whilst once more showcasing top form performances from both Matt Damon and Frances McDormand (who I confess has always been one of my favorites :P).
