Review of Promised Land (2012) by Sage H — 19 Sep 2014
Promised Land is very much a film with an agenda, which isn't inherently a bad thing, but the way in which it goes about discussing the issues at hand - natural gas, fracking, economically dying small communities and billion dollar corporations - while making its case is weird and never holds together.
Some of the characterization is lacking, there's a twist that is a bit of a hail marry, and it all makes the filmmakers' points a lot less clear and disjointed than it needed to be. But hey, at least Matt Damon and Frances McDormand are as predictably excellent as usual.
