Review of Prisoners (2013) by Jacob W — 03 May 2015
Prisoners is an emotional film about the loss of principles and the line between good and bad, conscious evil and subconscious evil. It attempts to portray the police force as perceptive, diligent, and objective, however, if anything, they appear to be incompetent and useless.
The two power actors; Jackman and Gyllenhaal, are wonderful in their on-screen chemistry. They work together and against each other, and with the help of Villeneuve with his pan-out technique, they deliver an end that is the best end possible with the tools at hand.
There are frustrating moments, and there are plot holes that make the police to be glaringly incompetent, but the movie holds its own, seeming slightly better than the average missing persons drama film.
