Review of Prisoners (2013) by Merijn J — 12 Sep 2018
In a wintry rain-sodden Georgia backwoods two young girls go missing. As policeman Jake Gyllenhaal starts to investigate he soon realises everyone has secrets and their own methods of meteing out justice.
Denis Villeneuve's intelligent thriller is beautifully acted and photographed (Roger Deakins) and is as much an indictment of knee-jerk vigilantism as involving mystery. Only slightly marred by self-indulgence towards the end, but well worth watching.
