Review of Prince of Darkness (1987) by Trevor R — 19 Oct 2014
If only Carpenter were half as interested in his characters as he were in quantum physics, "Prince of Darkness" would have been a fantastic entry into the canon of the B-Movie master. Instead, we're left with something lesser-- there's some wonderfully clever ideas at play here, some terrific scary moments and images, and Carpenter's overall direction, particularly his command of the impending-doom tone, are top notch, but the script (through faulty, sluggish structure and bland expository-filled dialogue) can never quite fulfill its necessary function.
The ending is killer.
