Pride is a great product of Hollywood international. It's a British movie, funded with money from the National Lottery, with contributions from all over the world but it's still effectively a Hollywood production. It's not a blockbuster by any means but it's not really an art house movie either.

Regardless of how it was produced, the movie is excellent and can bring anyone to the verge of tears. This is a movie about solidarity, friendship and people coming together under hardship and difficult circumstances. It pairs two unlikely allies, LGBT and Welsh miners who have more in common than most people would expect.

The movie is sweet but not sappy and it's not agenda motivated. It's not propagandist and it's really all about oppressed groups finding a common cause to fend off a mighty foe.

I think Pride is one of the best movies I've seen this year. I'm not sure there's enough for award nominations but it's truly a little gem and it should be at least watched by as many people as possible.
