Review of Pride (2014) by Roisin M — 17 Sep 2014
This is one of those rare films that I'd unreservedly recommend to absolutely everyone. It tells the true and moving - but also very funny - story of a group of London based gays and lesbians (led by the remarkable young activist, Mark Ashton) who are determined to do everything they can to support the striking miners during the vile Thatcher's cruel and despicable 'reign' in the 80s.
It's about time a sympathetic portrayal of the oppressed and bullied miners was offered and Stephen Beresford's script certainly delivers - in spades! Brilliantly directed by Matthew Warchus and starring a wonderful mixture of talented star names and promising newcomers, "Pride" is guaranteed to see you exiting the cinema grinning broadly and very possibly claiming to have something in your eye.
I simply can't praise this film highly enough; it's just about as close to perfect as a movie can get. Go see it! Then go see it again... and again (I did).
