Review of Predestination (2013) by Anthony K — 25 Feb 2016
High on concept, but low on flashy visual effects, Predestination is a quaint sci-fi that skates by on the merit of a twist-packed story. The dialogue and character interactions seem cumbersome at times and some of the world-building is a bit clunky, but the story arc itself is infinitely satisfying as it unfolds.
If I were to choose a standout moment, it would be the extended barroom scene that opens the film and introduces our two (two? spoiler perhaps) protagonists. It's a bit of a long sequence broken up by flashback, but as an intimate character piece, it's expertly paced and doles out exposition and intrigue in spades.
A good little movie, but forgettable overall. 6.3/10.
