Review of Power Rangers (2017) by Tbeit2 — 23 Jun 2017
This movie surprised me as it was very enjoyable. Solid acting from the leads and smooth action. What makes this film good is the breakfast club-style approach to developing the characters. It's not the most in depth thing you have ever seen, but they all develop nicely and you end up liking all of them by the end.
The movie has some real flaws though. First, the movie's pacing is a bit off. There isn't much flow for the first act, it just kind of stumbles scene to scene and really rushes through everything. Along with that, there could have been another scene or two with the kids and their respective families. There are two families I'm thinking of in particular (red and yellow ranger) as I think it would have added more depth to the film. Secondly, the movie is a bit light on action for the first two acts. I think in one of the montages they could have shown a bit more action, give us an idea of how their training gradually improved. This last complaint is small, but I think the main enemies looked a bit silly (not nearly as silly as Suicide Squad's enemies though). The main villain is also very bare bones.
Overall, it was a really good movie, though one that was a bit rushed and could have used some more polishing.
