Review of Powder Blue (2009) by Charles H — 18 Apr 2010
An interlocking story about four individuals, a stripper (Jessica Biel), an ex-criminal (Ray Liotta), an ex-priest (Forest Whitaker) and a mortician (Eddie Redmayne), who are desperately searching for something to hopefully end their woes.
Another one of those movies then about an individual's struggle to seek a better day or a miracle. Though this theme in movies is able to tug some heartstrings, this one here does it only minimally. It's kinda weird but cool to see Ray Liotta in a more gentle role. Forest Whitaker is alright, cause I think anyone could fill up his role. Jessica Biel's too, but still a good effort no less. This is the first time I have seen Eddie Redmayne, and I think he is not bad. Interlocking stories need to balance out the development of each of the characters. It would be nice if more is known about the background of Eddie Redmayne's and Ray Liotta's characters. Though they are under-developed, this movie at least shines hope, though only a glimmer.
