Review of Pontypool (2009) by Tim D — 31 Jan 2010
A very good film. It looked really good. Great direction, great cinematography. Pretty good performances for the most part, although sometimes I was a bit confused by character motives. The premise was very interesting, but required a bit too much suspension of disbelief for my liking.
In one sense I appreciated the unseen threat, but I also would've prefered better explanation about it (it was even more erratic than the unknown disease in The Happening), and how the doctor knew so much and didn't know anything at the same time.
Also, I borrowed it from a coworker based on the premise, which ended up being less social commentary than I expected. Which is good, because they could've been pretty heavy-handed with it, but it also wasn't as much as I wanted/expected which took some of the bite out of the movie.
The post-credits scene was a bit strange and out of place (or at least poorly explained). But I genuinely enjoyed watching this movie, and I'm not often one for horror-esque films.
