Review of Pompeii (2014) by Azeem H — 31 May 2014
Pompeii basically hashes Troy and Gladiator and puts them together to make a pale imitation of both.
The film has three strands, one is the revenge storyline taken from Conan which turns into the Gladiator storyline, a second storyline which is related to the revenge storyline through Kiefer Sutherland, and the volcano storyline, unfortunately none of the storylines really convince.
The film is just bland which is surprising considering I genuinely like the Resident Evil franchise and the first Mortal Kombat.
The acting is dismal only Adwale Akinnouye-Agbaje (as a Gladiator on the cusp of his freedom) comes out with any credit and to the CGI effects could've been better.
The film simply rolls on, there is not one thing is particularly memorable about it, may be they should've got Roland Emmerich to direct it at least he would have had some fun with the effects.
One to watch if there's nothing on.
