Review of Pompeii (2014) by Jason C — 28 Mar 2016
One has to wonder how many more tens of Hollywood millions Paul WS Anderson will be provided to produce this sort of tish. Wringing out daytime soap-level performances from his cast (Kiefer Sutherland brings to mind the archetypal 30s black and white bad guy with a long cape sneering into camera while Kit Harington's sole directorial advice appears to be to smolder at anything, including the erupting volcano which, to be fair, probably out-smolders anything), PWSA appears to have gone for authenticity in the building of the city itself and then thrown all 1st century Roman societal norms to the ash-laden wind and then added several hundred lava balls into the mix for good measure.
A failure of epic proportions.
