Review of Pompeii (2014) by Chad R — 01 Jun 2014
Hmmm let's see. Effects are clever....and that's about it. The actors struggle with one of the silliest narratives ever written, rendering any dramatic tension or suspension if disbelief to the bin.
Sutherland is woefully miscast and just comes across like a massive ham sandwich, the female lead is absolutely lacking in any charisma or acting skills, and the male lead leaves you not giving a damn.
This is, I feel, more down to the awful writing which has you guessing which bit of Gladiator and Titanic they will use next, and the astoundingly amateur level of directing. It's like he went to film school and ticked all the boxes in An idiots Guide to Directing, but forgot the stuff about making a film with a soul.
Dull beyond words, and the more CGI that gets thrown at the screen, the less you care out the one dimensional characters and the facile tale they are part of.
