Review of Poltergeist III (1988) by Clark P — 30 Sep 2007
I rate this movie five stars for two reasons - the first being that I am a huge 'Poltergeist' fan and the second for the final performance of tragic young starlet Heather O'Rourke. O'Rourke is undoubtedly the highlight of this second sequel which sadly fails to measure up to it's predecessors.
As Carol Anne Freeling, she has been shipped off to Chicago and is living with her aunt and uncle in a high rise. Alas it's not long before the evil undead preacher Reverend Kane shows up to snatch her over to 'the other side'.
All of the visuals are on-set this time which is a little disappointing and there's no Jerry Goldsmith either! But the movie is not without it's merits. Zelda Rubinstein is back to lend support as Tangina Barrons and there are some genuinely creepy moments.
Ultimately it's a movie of unfulfilled potential, forever remembered for O'Rourke's untimely passing shortly after it's completion. She truly was a gifted young actress.
