Review of Poltergeist (2015) by Jean C — 22 Jun 2015
Wow, what a disappointment. I was a fan of the original and this is a pretty bad watered down version. If you were going to make a 90 minute tv version of the original Poltergeist, this would be it. From the onset of this movie it is pretty clear how low budget it is.
the acting is poor, and everything is predictable. The director seemed to need inspiration, so he read a chapter of Dante's Inferno. But the most irritating things about this movie was not the unexplained paranormal activity, but the unexplained normal life activities.
For instance, how the heck does a family where neither parent works, qualify for a home. Also, how do you get kids with red hair and freckles, that look nothing like the biological parents. I want to see what the mailman looks like at their previous address.
Things like, the walls in the spiritual room are white when they're viewing the house, next scene they're painted, seemed weird. How did all the creepy dolls get in the house, why isn't the police called when the daughter disappears.
The irish guy that cleanses the house, has no history other than his own tv show, then he commits suicide because he has a job to do. Finally, everything seems forced, and you care nothing for the characters.
What a wasted opportunity...;-(.
