I can see why Westlake didn't let them use the name Parker for this adaptation. The reason is because that's not Parker on screen. That's someone in the story Parker was in but not truly the man himself.
Apart from the poor character adaptations the film seems incredibly dated and seems to feel the need to show unneeded flashbacks all the time.
