Review of Playing by Heart (1998) by Giffy G — 16 Jan 2009
I was very pleased with this movie. The characters were quirky and lovable, the plots (as there were several) were captivating, and the acting was subtler than I expected. There were some stories that overshadowed (such as Angelina Jolie's) and some stories that remained obscure (such as Jay Mohr's), but largely, there was fair interplay.
The movie handled changes in tone surprisingly well--a difficult task indeed--and while I was very confused as to why certain OBVIOUS information was withheld from the audience, I let the movie have that one nuisance.
A sold movie.
