Review of Pitch Perfect (2012) by Gordon H — 21 Feb 2016
Arriving at her new college, Beca (Anna Kendrick) finds herself not right for any clique but somehow is muscled into one that she never would have picked on her own: alongside mean girls, sweet girls, and weird girls whose only thing in common is how good they sound when they sing together. When Beca leads this a cappella singing group out of their traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into all-new mash-ups, they fight to climb their way to the top of college music competitions.
A cross between 'Bring It On,' 'Mean Girls,' and 'Glee,' 'Pitch Perfect' is one of the funniest comedies I've seen in a long time! I can't say enough good things about this charming film. I was afraid it would turn into a Glee-like songfest, but it instead showed me something I wasn't expecting to see - heart. Fabulous performances by Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and the rest of the cast, but the actress who absolutely steals the show is comedienne Rebel Wilson as "Fat Amy." SNL, sign this girl up ASAP! Infused with energy, wit, and incredible comedic timing to make it laugh out loud funny---'Pitch Perfect' has it all! Two thumbs way, way up!
