Review of Pitch Perfect (2012) by Michael Z — 02 Feb 2014
Though it commits to the screen some really smile-inducing scenes, Pitch Perfect too often abandons character development in favor of a cappella razzle-dazzle, which stretches the plot thinly over the countless musical numbers. The romantic subplot is the worst type of underwritten, wherein it doesn't give the steady screentime necessary to facilitate audience involvement, then demands our emotional investment in said relationship.
*2/4*.
