Review of Pitch Black (2000) by Olli G — 23 Dec 2013
The small scale of the movie and its restraint in not attempting to be grandiose really help this film to create an almost claustrophobic atmosphere using our base fear of darkness to good effect. Sometimes the low-budget nature of the film glimpses through but it doesn't suffer much from this apart from a few amateur-ish performances by some cast members; something which somehow added to their helplessness though in the face of aliens.
Vin Diesel is predictably macho, almost laughably so but he grabs every scene he is in seemingly by just brooding about aliens. Good film and well worth a watch!
